River Sava is also divided into numerous fishing districts. First it is managed by Fishing club of Radovljica (1), then by the Fishing club of Tržič (2), then by the Fishing club of Kranj (3). Fly fishing waters end in part of the river which is managed by the Fishing club of Medvode (4), Straža-Sava (5) and State´s fisheries Institute (6).

As a whole Sava is quite deep and wide river, where trophy trouts, graylings and huchos might be caught. At some parts (especially lower) of the river it is too deep for wading so fishing from the banks is necessary.

Flyfishing season from 01.03. - 30.09.

Sava in this part is really nice fly fishing district, full of large trouts and graylings. So if you want to experience the fly fishing paradise this could be a good choice.

Flyfishing district:

The waters of the Radovljica fishing club are divided into two districts: district A, which extends from the Cajhen´s dam to Rakovnik, and district 4, which extends from Rakovnik to the place where Tržiška Bistrica joins the Sava river. Together, both districts are 23 kilometers long.

Flyfishing season from: 01.04. - 15.11.

Sava in the part managed by the Kranj Fishing club extends from the part above the old bathing place to the hydro-electric power plant Mavčiče. You may catch huge graylings, trouts, danubian salmons, pikes, etc. in this part of the river.

Flyfishing district:

Upper 2 km are pure flyfishing part- from the dam at Aquasava factory (Tekstilindus) to the bridge at Planika factory, next is mixed cyprinid-salmonid part, from the bridge at Planika to the mill at Prebačevo, and the last part is from the mill at Prebačevo to the steel line above the HC Mavčiče. Special rules are valid for the water basin from the dam at Aquasava (Tekstilindus) to the first wooden dam. Fishing for rainbow trout is permitted all year round.

Flyfishing season from: 01.03. - 01.10.

This part, managed by the Medvode Fishing Club, extends from the bridge in Verje, to the road bridge in Tacen. You may laso fish in the Šmartno basin under the Šmarna gora hill near Ljubljana. In this part of Sava river you may catch some great graylings, rainbows, brownies and trophy huchos.

From the bridge in Verje, to the road bridge in Tacen.

With the daily licence for district Sava- Ljubljanica you may fish in river Sava from the confluence with the river Ljubljanica to the bridge in Litija. You may also fish in a part of Ljubljanica from the confluence with Besnica to the confluence with Sava, except in the oxbows in Ribče and Jevnica. The main fish in this part of the river are trophy huchos (danubian salmons).

Flyfishing district:

Sava from the confluence with the river Ljubljanica to the bridge in Litija and Ljubljanica river from the confluence with Besnica to the confluence with Sava, except in the oxbows in Ribče and Jevnica.
