Its source is in "Polog", an alpine valley below "Bogatin". It has carved its way towards the Soča through a narrow valley, sometimes through steep canyons, which are most spectacular in the section of the gorges of the Tolminka. It leaves them entering the "Tolmin" basin, where it slows and enters the Soča below "Bučenica". Its entire 10 km length is open to fishing, except the section of the gorges. The Tolminka contains all species of trout. Upper parts of the river are inhabited with the genuine marble trout and also some beautiful brown trout. There are some great and strong rainbows in the lower part, where near "Tolmin" you may also catch a grayling. Entire stream is managed by the fishing club of Tolmin.
