The Upper Savinja valley is one of the most beautiful and amazing mountainious landscapes, with the river Savinja as its biggest pearl, that is one of the main tourist attractions.

The river Savinja is a typical alpine river, with a lot of riffles, pockets, deep pools and dams. Since the water is very clean, the river is very rich with water fauna.

Not only Savinja, but also its tributaries Dreta and Lučnica are attractive for flyfishing. Savinja is divided in two flyfishing districts, managed by two fishing clubs. [1] Savinja from its source is managed by Fishing Club of Ljubno, lower part of Savinja [2] is managed by the Fishing Club of Mozirje.

Flyfishing season from: 15.04. - 31.10.

Savinja in its upper part is just an extraordinary and fascinating first- class flyfishing district, which may satisfy the most demanding flyfishermen. Rapids, riffles, pockets and numerous deep pools are the perfect hiding place for genuine brown trouts, graylings and rainbows also. Turists may fish in three districts and in flyfishing basin near Fishing club´s lodge:

• DISTRICT 2:

The river Savinja from the confluence with river Lučnica down to the Savinjski bridge in Ljubno.

• DISTRICT 3:

The river Savinja from dam Pekovski in the village Ljubno down to the dam Kolencev in Okonina.
In these two districts (from 15. April to 31. May) fishing is allowed only by the streamer larger then 5 cm, but from 1. June to 31. October dries and nymphs are allowed too.

Only flyfishing is allowed in all areas, with using only one fly on the leader. The flies must be tied on barbless hooks or the barb must be smashed down! Spinning and other forms of fishing are not allowed. Flyfishing out of a boat it is not allowed, and there is also not allowed to flyfish down from bridges or similar structures.

• DISTRICT "CATCH & RELEASE":

The river Savinja from Logarska valley down to village Luče, then river Lučnica (5km) and trophy part of Savinja (2km), from the Savinjski bridge to Pekovski dam. Flyfishing in this part is allowed from 15. April to 31. October, using dries, nymphs and streamers. Every fish should be properly released!

• Flyfishing basin near the Fishing club´s lodge:

Season from 1. March to 31. October. Streamers not allowed there!

Flyfishing season:: 01.04. - 30.11. (trophy C&R part 01.03.- 30.11.)

Fishing Club of Mozirje manages the river Savinja from Grušovlje to Letuša and the entire stream of Dreta river. Fishing water are divided in three districts:

• District Savinja

• District Dreta

• District "catch and release" at the part of Savinja in Mozirje

Both rivers are full of trouts and graylings, in the "catch and release" part there are also some trophy ones. In the winter time you may experience fishing for huchos (danubian salmons) also. You may catch these mighty fish using your flyfishing tackle in "catch and release" district! Worth trying
