Idrijca river is divided in two fly- fishing districts. The upper part [1] which is opened to fish from the bridge in Sp. Idrija downstream to the bridge near Stopnik village is managed by the Idrija Fishing Association. Lower part [2] of the Idrijca river is managed by the Angling Club of Tolmin from Stopnik village to its flow into Soča river.

Flyfishing season from 01.04. - 30.11.

The crystal-clear Idrijca River with its numerous tributaries offers an ideal natural habitat for fish, which is why the Idrija and Tolmin region boasts a long, rich fishing tradition. The oldest records on fishing in these parts appeared in medieval land registers around 1300, and the first written fishing rules were laid down in the Mining Rules of the Idrija Mercury Mine as early as in 1580.

Fishing in Idrija's waters offers visitors a genuine experience in unspoilt natural surroundings, a healthy way of spending their leisure time, an ideal holiday and relaxation. Fishing is not only an obsession of the association's members, but is becoming an increasingly more desirable sport attracting numerous domestic and foreign visitors, primarily from neighbouring countries.
Our fishermen are devoting tireless endeavours to preserving the breathtaking natural environment in the picturesque Idrija region located at the meeting point of the prealpine and Karst worlds. They are fighting a constant battle against negligent littering, depositing of wastes and water pollution, regularly organize cleaning campaigns along river banks, and strive to arouse ecological awareness. Thanks to their efforts as well, this part of Slovenia, reputed for its rich natural and cultural heritage, is becoming an increasing more attractive destination for numerous visitors from other parts of Slovenia and European countries.

Types of flyfishing licenses:

Daily fishing license for the "A", "B" + trophy part: Idrijca river from Bela village bathing site above Idrija to the concrete bridge at Stopnik village (which is a border with the Tolmin fishing district). In Kanomljica (left tributary of idrijca), from the concrete bridge at Sinkovec (fish farm) to the confluence with Idrijca and Cerknica river from the outflow of Oresovka to the confluence with the Idrijca river. Fishing is permitted from the 01.04. to the 30.11, except for the district "A" of the river, which opens on 15.05. and closes on 30.09., the "B" dictrict (from the dam at Kolektor factory to the suspension bridge at Peljhan), which opens on 15th May and closes on 30.10., and for the part of the river from the bridge na Straži (za Jagršče), to the bridge at Maruškovec (above Želin), which opens on 01.04. and closes on 30.10. In November fishing is permitted only from the confluence of Idrijca and Kanomljica downstream to the bridge at Stopnik (except the part from the bridge "na Straži" to the "Maruškovec" above Želin, which closes on 30.10.) License for the "B" CATCH & RELEASE district: this district includes Idrijca river from below the confluence of Idrijca and Kanomljica river to the concrete bridge at Stopnik (border with the Tolmin fishing club´s district). With this licence, fishing is allowed from 1.4. to the 30.11., except for the part of the river from the bridge na Straži (za Jagršče), to the bridge at Maruškovec (above Želin), which opens on 01.04. and closes on 30.10. In November fishing is permitted only from below the confluence of Idrijca and Kanomljica downstream to the bridge at Stopnik (except the part from the bridge "na Straži" to the "Maruškovec" above Želin, which closes on 30.10.) Fishing in both tributaries of Kanomljica and Cerknica is not allowed with this license!

License for the "B" CATCH & TAKE district: this district includes Idrijca river from below the confluence of Idrijca and Kanomljica river to the concrete bridge at Stopnik (border with the Tolmin fishing club´s district), without the "CATCH & RELEASE" part from the bridge na Straži (za Jagršče), to the bridge at Maruškovec (above Želin), and without both tributaries Kanomljica and Cerknice. [2] Idrijca (RD Tolmin)

Flyfishing season: 01.04. - 31.10.

The Idrijca enters the Tolmin fishing sector in the village of Stopnik. It is a river with a more pronounced karst character and typical greenish color. Till "Trebuša" village it runs between heavily forested banks, through deep pools, rapids and overflows. At Trebuša its current slows somewhat and gravel deposits appear. The pools are still long and deep, especially those by the village "Slap ob Idrijci", only the overflows and rapids are slower and gentler. By "Bača pri Modreju" it enters the Doblar dam accumulation lake and enters the Soča near Most na Soči.
Its entire 16.2 km length is opened to fish. All the species of fish found in the Tolmin fishing sector can be found here: all species of trout and grayling. It is worldwide famous by its huge marble trouts which can be found in deeper pools. It happens sometimes that during the fishing, huge shadow passes by. That is a gigantic marble trout. But she won´t wait!

Types of flyfishing licences:

General licence for Soča (+ lake Most na Soči), Nadiža, Idrijca (without C&R part!), Učja, Bela, Bača (without C&R part!), Koritnica, Kneža, Tolminka (without C&R part!) - you may change rivers during the flyfishing day.
PRICE: 66 EUR (three days: 178 EUR, five days: 264 EUR)

Special general "CATCH and RELEASE" licence for rivers: Soča (between the Volarje and Kamno bridge), Idrijca (from Slap to the bridge in Idrija pri Bači), Bača (from Klavže to the confluence with Idrijca river), Tolminka (entire stream), Trebuščica (entire stream). You may fish all C&R parts AND all other no C&R parts of the rivers, but you must release all fish you catch- that means everywhere!
