Hey Czech,,,

Since there are many foreign visitors at this website, I decided to write a short report on my flyfishing trip to Baca river, which is managed by the Tolmin Fishing Club.

I visited Baca few days ago. Always when I walk along this river, it seems like a fairy tale to me. With all Her beauty, pools with crystal clear water, nice rapids, plenty of great fishing spots and a lot of beautiful fish. The majority of fish are hybrids (marble X brown trout) and brown trouts, but there is a nice population of marble trouts too. Especially in the lower part of the river large grayings and rainbows may be caught.

River Baca is devided in two parts. Upper part from Podbrdo downstream to Klavze is regular fishing district, but from Klavze dam to the confluence with Idrijca river, only "catch & release" is permitted. Fishing Club of Tolmin is increasing the range of the "catch & release" districts, since this is one of the important ways how to keep a large and healthy population of endemic species in our rivers. And flyfishermen like it too, because there is nothing more joyful than catching a nice marble trout or adriatic grayling and releasing it back to its pool

That day, water level was just perfect and water clear. In the morning I didn´t catch many fish. They became active a little later, around 10 or 11 a.m. I mostly used small streamer and larger nymph patterns, there was no action at the surface, which is normal for the early season time. But eventhough I didn´t catch a lot of fish, the ones that I succeeded to catch were extremely beautiful and a real pleasure for the eye of a flyfisherman!

Here are some moments, caught by the eye of a camera :

[Morning at the Baca river ]

[The first one today ]

[Rapids and pools offer a safe shelter for the fish in the Baca river ]

[Brown trout from the Baca river ]

[Great place to relax from the everyday thoughts ]

[Another beauty from the Baca river ]

[One of the two large graylings which attacked my nymph... I tried to avoid places where graylings could be expected, because they prepare for the spawning process in these days, so it really wouldn´t be nice to disturb them...]

[Water level is just perfect, to catch bigger fish too... ]

[...this hybrid trout really made my day! ]

[A close- shot ]

[The last look at the Baca river, before leaving it ]

This day will remain in my memories for a long time and I am sure I will be back with Her soon

Tight lines,
Lucky

Hey Robert,,,

Nice website

I am very glad that the fishing was o.k. I see that you caught some nice fish too And now we may pray for some rain, since the water levels are very low, water is gin clear and fish quite spooky. As todays forecast stands, the rain should fall tomorrow, but I am not sure if that will be enough to raise water levels... We´ll see, lets hope for the best

Tight lines,
Lucky

It rains cats and dogs since 22p.m. yesterday. Soča is already much higher, Tolminka even more; unfortunately she is very muddy as well!

Hey,,,

@samaki

This is really great news! Lets hope it continues to rain for at least one day more and that the Idrijca and its tributaries will rise too...

Thanks a lot for this information.

Lucky then that I already have come back home.....

I had a great week in the Soca valley during my stay week 20. Soca was actually a little high and muddy the first days so we concetrated to fish in Tolminka, Idrijca, Baca and Trebuscica. Last day on our way home the water in Soca was just great again so we could have an after noon/evening fishing just below Bovec in some great Soca pools!

We managed to catch mostly all spieces, marmorata trout, brown trout, rainbows and greyling. Most common was the rainbow trouts. One morning when a little rain come I was fishing in the Baca river and during one short hour I catched 10 great rainbow trouts on my favorite part of river Baca. It was just fantastic, all catched on a small dark nymph with tungsten head.

We chatched alot of graylings during this trip, in Tolminka, Idrijca, Baca and Soca. This was great since my 2 friend haven't catched any graylings before. (they are not available in the souths of Sweden..)

Last day on our way back home we went to a great pool just south of Bovec where we catched some great graylings during the eve. I probably saw the biggest rainbow ever here also... just on the oposite of the river it was head and tailing like the salmons are doing here in Sweden... and the fish was BIG!!! (easy 5 kg) We couldn't reach it.. it was just like 5 meter left and we tryed to get out there without any success.

Whats the biggest rainbow trout that has been catched in Soca? are there any records?

Hopefully I will go down again in the end of July/beginning of August again and are really looking forward to it.
