Sadly my friend has to cancel the trip to Slovenia because of private matters (nothing serious, just bad planning ) But we might visit Tolmin in fall instead..... When will be a good time normally ??? Last fall 2007 we went in the week 40 or 41, and we met the worst conditions after only two good days...... Is it possible to talk of a generally good week ??? (I know weather changes and nothing is for sure, but we are looking for some good hatches / You know,- dryflies ) Now we´re on our way again We will arrive on the 27th of august and fish in the Tolmin fishing Club area. How are the chances for good dryfly fishing and which flies do we need in our boxes Dryflies are our passion, so please help us out. I wont miss good opportunities on this 4 days of dreamfishing..... Thanks a lot Torben Slyngborg, Denmark |

Hey Torben, I have just returned from this year´s vacation and Denmark with Copenhagen and its surroundings, was a part of it. You have a beautiful country and your capital is amazing Well I had some really nice fly fishing days in the end of August and in the beginning of September in the past, but it is hard to predict the conditions for the forthcoming weeks. If you choose to fish for ex. at the Soca and Idrijca rivers with their tributaries, you may experience very nice fishing, since they are mostly Alpine rivers which will have enough water… Soca river might be a little bit crowded in August, since it is a holiday time in Slovenia, so many water activities are going on at that time (rafting, cayaking, etc.) but usually there are no problems- you may find a part of the river where you will be mostly alone, w/o such interruptions. If you choose to fish in the Tolminska region there are some nice rivers where rafting and cayaking is forbidden completely (Idrijca, Trebuscica, Baca, etc.). At Soca there is a local regulation which lays down some rules on hours when rafting is permitted- I think that is from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for this season. But anyway I fish a lot at these rivers in the summer and didn´t have problems at all- fish rise nicely to the surface, nymphing is also very productive, so … I am sure you and your friends will enjoy it from the early morning to the late evening. In August there are also some cultural and social events going on in the Soca valley- lots of concerts, summer nights near the lake of Most na Soci, etc. It is a wonderful time in the very heart of the Julian Alps… Flies- mostly small to medium sized nymphs of natural colors, but have prepared some smaller cdc&elks, f- flies, small to medium sedges, cdc emergers, etc.- if the water will be higher, larger flies may be also productive... I hope this information helps you and that you will have a great time in Slovenia Tight lines and regards from Slovenia, Lucky [ Edited Saturday 16 August 2008 - 23:54:57 ] |
